BLOOM IN THE PARK – TICKET COMPETITION
Bord Bia’s Bloom Festival is taking place from Thurs 31 May – 04 June in Phoenix Park. Bloom is Ireland’s largest gardening, food and family event and last year 90,000 people visited the event. DUBLIN CITY SOUL FESTIVAL
I now have the programme for you to download. The main events are the Soul Picnic on Saturday and Sunday, it is a two day affair this year. In addition there will be a really interesting exhibition of painted and “artified” musical instruments (mainly guitars) in the exhibition area upstairs in Stephen’s Green Shopping Centre. Then there is a Restaurant Trail and the Gospel Brunch (on Sat+Sun). So make sure you come to the Soul Picnic and have a look at the other events too. The Soul Picnic in Merrion Square is free and so is the Instrument Art exhibition.

BEALTAINE FESTIVAL 2012
The Bealtaine Festival continues still. It is a full month of events for the older age group and uses the theme “celebrating creativity as we age” this year. Estimates are that over 120,000 people will take part in Bealtaine. “From dance to cinema, painting to theatre, Bealtaine showcases the talents and creativity of both first-time and professional older artists. …” There is a vast amount of events and the big contribution of the Public Libraries makes this event even a bigger success. INTERNATIONAL MUSEUM DAY 2012

Every year since 1977 International Museum Day is organised worldwide around May 18 and will have this year nearly 30,000 participating museums in 100 countries. The day is an occasion to raise awareness on how important museums are in the development of society. The International Council of Museum’s Advisory Committee organises the theme of the event and th theme for 2012 is ‘Museums in a Changing World – New challenges, New inspirations’.

Drawing Day at the National Gallery will start at 11:00 in the Milltown Wing with a life drawing session for adults, launched by artist Una Sealy ARHA. It will include drawing demonstrations in the galleries between 11:00 and 12:30 with artists, Alan Daly, Oliver Comerford and Eamon Coleman.
The afternoon session from 15:00-16:00 is for children and families with a drawing project in the Milltown Rooms on the theme, ‘Animal Olympics 2012 at the National Gallery of Ireland’ led by Fintan Mahon and tutors, together with drawing demonstrations with Alan Daly, Oliver Comerford and Eamon Coleman.

The lecture “Bauhaus: Art as Life” with Kathleen James-Chakraborty will take place and admission is free. The Bauhaus was the twentieth-century’s most important and influential experiment in design education. Founded in 1919 in Weimar, Germany, by Walter Gropius, it moved to Dessau in 1926, and to Berlin in 1933, where it closed within months of the establishment of the Third Reich. Its faculty included many of the most important abstract artists of the day.
This lecture will focus on new themes in Bauhaus scholarship, including the increasing recognition being accorded the work of the women who taught and studied there. It will also refer to the exhibition with the same title which is currently on show at London’s Barbican. This exhibition is supported by the Goethe-Institut London.
